Rail – forget it, expensive, infrequent and slow, there are only two lines as well in a country the size of the uk!
Coachpass – good idea if you cannot drive and dont fancy drinking binges
Rental Car – the way to go, get off the beaten track
Air – lots of domestic fights – There are two major airline operators, Air New Zealand and Qantas and a third, smaller, operator Pacific Blue
